Clearly, it’s not Christmas today. But it IS time for a Christmas themed post I’ve been tagged in by two rather nice ladies – Lucy At Home and Claire at The Pramshed

What’s your favourite Christmas Movie?

I just pondered this out loud with my husband who shouted ‘Die Hard!’ with real man-conviction. Can’t say I agree (having never seen it – I know!), so I’m going Home Alone. I don’t love it now but I used to watch it over and over – and it just reminds me of Christmas at Mum and Dad’s. I thought it was the funniest film ever when I was about 12. (Media Mummy family trivia: my brother now lives a stone’s throw from the house where it was filmed in Chicago, so I’ve seen it in real life – in the snow! Cool.)

Have you ever had a white Christmas?

Yes I think so – but it was a very long time ago, I might have been 8 or 9. At the house my parents still live at. And I don’t remember it being that crisp, white, amazing stuff. Just a bit white and soggy. Still awesome.

Where do you usually spend your holiday?

Since having the children, we’ve always woken up on Christmas morning at our own house, and then gone to one set of parents’ or the other after presents. We’re going to the in-laws’ on Christmas Eve this year, so it’ll be lovely but quite weird waking up elsewhere! It’ll be fun creeping about doing all the Christmas Eve Santa admin with them over a few glasses of wine 🙂

What is your favourite Christmas song?

Easy Peasy: Chris Rea – Driving Home for Christmas. Puts a smile on my face picturing everyone in their cars driving to their families, and it never gets annoying. Unlike 99.9% of other Christmas songs. (seriously, when is anyone going to write a song that isn’t East 17 ‘Stay Another Day’ and will stick around as long as the most annoying, old ‘classics’?!)

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

How would we do that? There aren’t any presents before Santa delivers them (if we’ve been good)!

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

I know there’s Donner and Blitzen, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer (I think). Rudolph, of course?

What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

I’m really looking forward to filling up M’s stocking when he’s asleep (as long as he’s not ill like he was last year – it was impossible to know when he was totally asleep for the night, so I was worried he’d wake up at 3am and be excited at the full stocking eeek).

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Fake. This is a bit of a bugbear… (love that word – where does it come from? To be Googled). I LOVE real trees – you can’t beat the smell. But with small people and pine-needle eating/stabbing we bought a fake one… Argh. Kind of hate myself for it. I’d love to get a real one again in the next couple of years – but feels like a bit of a waste once you’ve spent the money on the artificial one.

What is your all time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?

Pigs. In. Blankets. ALL DAY.

Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?

Getting them! Come ooonnnn all you ‘I just love giving gifts for the looks on people’s faces’ lot. That only lasts a second. Your own presents last forever ‘cos you keep them! Anyone who says the opposite it lying 😉

What is the best Christmas present you ever received?

I remember getting a new bike when I was around 10. My parents did a treasure hunt to find my last present and the last clue took me outside to the shed, completely beside myself with excitement at the build up… It was AMAZING. I’m thinking of doing something similar for M this year if he’s not too young to get it.

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

This is my first really tough one. If someone gave me a load of money to blow on going somewhere hot, clearly I’d say thanks and take the plane ticket to somewhere like the Caribbean. But actually… I don’t think I could say I’d love to go away at Christmas. It’s all about our family in our lounge. And that’s what makes me happy.

Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

I’m somewhere in the middle. I make an effort but I’m not Rowan Atkinson in ‘Love Actually’.

Most memorable Christmas moment?

Coming down the stairs early on Christmas morning to the MOUNTAIN of presents under the tree. We didn’t collect any gifts under the tree on the run up to Christmas like some people, so the first glimpse round the lounge door was amazing and I was always so excited!

What made you realise the truth about Santa?

I’m not sure anything brought my belief to an abrupt end – I think it naturally dawned on me over time. It was also a case of ‘what if I say it out loud and then I don’t get any presents…’ so I didn’t want to risk it!

What makes the holidays special for you?

Time of with my husband, the small people and close family. We don’t have a big family so I feel really lucky to celebrate with them (except my brother who’ll be hanging out at the Home Alone house, maybe). Oh, and presents of course 🙂

Couldn’t resist sharing this – turkey bigger than toddler! 🙂

I’d love to read the following pals’ festive answers:

Enjoy the tag if you have time to play pre the big beardy man’s arrival folks x

Haha love the ‘fellow musical fan & technophobe’. ???

I can’t wait to do this. I love Christmas. Thank you for the tag x

  2. stressymama

Me again. I’m so jealous you’ve seen the Home Alone house. Haha. Was it as amazing as I think it would be?

    • kimberly

It’s massive! And looks quite scary actually. I thought it looked a bit run down but I think people live there – awesome x

  3. Lucy At Home

Great answers! I love Pigs in blankets too! Why are they always reserved for Christmas? It’s weird.

We never had presents under the tree either, but a pile for each child magically ended up in the lounge and I loved that first moment when you poke your head round the door in the morning. Eek!

    Happy Christmas!

    • kimberly

Yay! It’s so fun. Even if most presents were a selection box, satsuma and socks it looked amazing! X

  4. Squirmy Popple

I love Home Alone too! I haven’t watched it in years, but I used to watch it every year as soon as it was officially ‘Christmas season’ and it really helped get me in the mood. I love that feeling when you first glimpse the presents under the tree too – I’m hoping my daughter will have a similar experience year now that she’s 18 months and old enough to really enjoy the whole experience. Last year she just tried to eat the wrapping paper. #FamilyFun

    • kimberly

Haha – just them boxes and wrapping paper as a baby i say!! X

  5. justsayingmum

Oh I love this – I love your husband’s answer of Die Hard – Christmas movie? really? I’m with you on Home Alone! And OMG you’ve seen the house – just amazing! You’ve made me feel so christmassy with this post with talk of christmas eve santa admin (!), the presents, the tree (you have to have real next year – the smell from ours is divine!), the family, the stockings – have a gorgeous one! #FamilyFun

  6. tammymum

Ah I have never thought about that song like that before – but it’s so true and such a great reason to like it. How bad is this, I am not even sure I have watched home alone?! I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas at the in laws and thank you so much for joining us at #familyfun xx

  7. Two Tiny Hands (@IsntitprettyKTB)
