Abandoned town hall – #MySundayPhoto

I do love a good town hall. I’m not entirely sure what happens in them, but I imagine it involves a lot of paperwork.

This lovely building stands empty in Staines town centre. It’s right on the riverfront, with a clocktower, huge bold red door and old fashioned phone boxes to each side. And those windows! So beautiful.

Whenever I see it I feel sad that it’s been deemed no use to anyone anymore. A bit of googling tells me locals are petitioning for it to be re-opened as an Arts Centre, and since it’s been empty there’s been a fire, squatters and several planning permission submissions.

I wonder what will become of it?

What a shame it’s empty, it’s beautiful! Lovely shot. #sundayphoto

What a beautiful building. I can’t believe its empty. That really is so sad. I guess it will become flats or something eventually. At least it will be lived in again.
